Walk in the Woods, Cinderella, Rocks, and Zipline!

Ok. . . I’m behind on posting one other activity we did during our Goldilocks Unit!!  The students used the word wall to choose some words and then wrote about whether it is safe to go for a walk in the woods ALONE!!

I had to post these!! I love CAPITAL LETTERS in this first one!!  First graders are so funny!!!  HA!

And check out that SCARED face in this one!!!

This week we are reading Cinderella Stories!  We brainstormed all about, “What is a Fairy Tale?”  We made this anchor chart.  Next I read them, Cinderella by James Marshall.  They loved it!! I had them identify the characters, setting, problem, and the solution.

We also practiced putting words from the story in ABC Order.

Today we read Cinderella Penguin by Janet Perlman.  What a fun little twist.  Today the students sequenced the story.

We  also used the word wall to write about what they would want from their fairy godmother.

Don’t you just love first grade spelling!!

This week we have also been learning all about rocks.  We made this chart to practice rock describing words.

We also learned the three ways to sort rocks: size, color, texture.
We also talked about the SHAPE of the rock.

Next, the students each got a rock, they  wrote sentences that described their rock using words from this chart.  We then played, "Guess My Rock"  and tried to guess which rock was theirs!!  The students loved this game.

In other news I went Zip-Lining on Sunday!!  It was so fun!!Basically it is like a large swing.  I was scared but I did it!!And I hope to go again soon!  Here is a little video:
